Your Guide for the Week!

Whether you are engaging as an individual or with a team, find a way to include the following
virtual sessions in your own week of learning.

Ally Appreciation Week Framework:
  1. Topic: Each day is inspired by a specific topic or theme.
  2. Description: The description will help you further understand the focus and objectives for the day.
  3. Activities: Each day a new activity and reflection question will be revealed. 
  4. Daily Action Item:  Action items to put learning into practice.

Monday

Topic: What's an Ally?
Description: Learn the basics. A framework and vocabulary for allyship. 
Activities:
  • 4:00pm EST- Afternoon 30-minute mini workshop: Defining what allyship is and is not. 
  • 6:00pm EST- Evening discussion with Chuck Cogliandro and Dr. Danielle Stewart on cultivating allyships between women and men. 
Action Item: Create your own personal list of who you would like to consider to be an ally for and/or who you want to be your ally.​
Daily Discussion Question: 
Reflect on scenarios where you could have used an ally or acted as an ally?

Tuesday

Topic: Why should I care about allyship?
​Description: Learn the case for allyship in the workplace. 
Activities: 
  • 1:00pm EST- Conversation with author of Impactful Inclusion, Yvette Steele. Interview led by Michellea Rucker 
  • 3:30pm EST- 30-minute mini workshop: Allies and the lack of allies make the difference in the workplace. 
  • 6:00pm EST- White Advocates for Racial Equity affinity group meeting (must register to join)
Action Item: A.S.K. one person to be your ally or partner
Daily Discussion Question(s): What gets in the way of you asking? Why do you need this person? Why does this person need you?

Wednesday

Topic: Power and Privilege​
Description: 
Understand your own power and privilege and assess how to share your power and transfer it to others
Activities: ​

  • 12:00pm EST- 30-minute mini workshop: Analyzing and sharing power in the workplace 
  • 6:00pm EST- LGBTQ Panel Discussion on Allyship led by Jason Allen. Panelists: Avia Solomon, Kay Solomon, Martha Caldwell 
  • 7:00pm EST BIPOC empowerment affinity group meeting (must register to join)
Action Item: Share the power and privilege activity with someone on your team.
​Daily Discussion Question: How can you use your power in transformational ways?

Thursday

Topic: The Process of Allyship
Description: Learn how psychological safety influences trusting relationship and cultivates allyship.
Activities: 
  • 4:00pm EST- 30-minute mini workshop: Psychological safety and building trusting relationships.
  • 6:30pm EST- Men and Fathers affinity group meeting (must register to join)
Action Item: Write a letter to a person who you are grateful for. Think about a time when they acted as an ally and showed up for you.  
Daily Discussion Question: Reflection on what the experience was like to write the letter.

Friday

Topic: Putting Allyship into Action
​Description: Find ways that you can advance in your allyship journey. Discover next steps.
Activities: 
  • 10:00am EST- "Conversation with Dr. Harper".
  • 4:00pm EST- "Conversation with Kay". Interview led by Martha Caldwell. Discussion about leading others to understand effective allyship.
  • Take pictures with your allyship appreciation week signs and share with us.​
Action Item: Share with someone 3 action items towards establishing partnerships you are going to take as a result of what you have learned this week. 
Daily Discussion Question: What is one thing that you’ve learned that you can share with others in order to increase awareness about allyship?​
